Our guest speaker/clinician will be Dr. Louis Bergonzi, formerly of Massachusetts. Dr. Bergonzi grew up in Wellesley, attended Boston University and taught in the Lexington Schools and has conducted the Massachusetts All-State Orchestra twice. He will address topics of: LGBTQ issues for students and faculty Urban instrumental music programs Diversity in choosing repetoire and take your questions on any social justice issues. The webinar will take place on: Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at 7:00 PM EST. via Zoom (when you sign up please give your email and we will send the Zoom info that day) This evening will be FREE of charge! The Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral and Conductors Association (MICCA) and the Boston Symphony Orchestra want to help our state’s music educators and students during this unique school year. We are now offering FREE virtual clinics for educators to use with students for a live, interactive clinic with a musician from the Boston Symphony Orchestra! These virtual clinics are FREE , but will granted on a first-come, first-served basis . The theme of this year's programming is: Preparing for Remote Teaching. We have curated OVER TWENTY SESSIONS which all deal with this topic in some way. We hope that educators will leave feeling inspired and have new tricks up their sleeves to best-engage their students remotely. Sessions will be offered via Zoom on August 10 - 13 & 17 - 20 . Our sessions will delve into.... Improvisation in the large ensemble (over Zoom) Best practices in teaching band, chorus, and orchestra remotely Virtual ensembles The flipped classroom Student engagement And SO MUCH more! There is NO COST to participate but we ask that all participants register here by Saturday, August 8. All registrants will receive an email on Sunday, August 9 with links to all of the sessions. The intent of these sessions is to arm you with as many strategies, ideas, and best practices to employ with your ensembles and beginning instrumentalists in remote and hybrid settings as possible. The intent is NOT to fixate on what we have no control over but rather to learn about and discuss what we CAN do to be effective and engaging educators. We have 20 sessions which will take place over Zoom between August 10 - 13 & 17 - 20 . The menu of sessions includes sharing sessions for band, chorus, and orchestra teachers, group improvisation techniques for the large ensemble, a musicianship refresher for educators, a mindfulness session for educators, teaching social justice and anti-racism through ensemble music, rec ruitment and retention, virtual ensembles, and SO MUCH MORE!
